MASSIVE PREHISTORIC TUNNELS DISCOVERED YEARS AGO WHICH WAS DUGGED BY A GIANT SLOTH

What about enormous tunnels excavated by enormous prehistoric sloths? You may have heard of underground cities constructed by humans. Even though it sounds absurd, this is what is found throughout southern Brazil. These massive tunnels, called paleoburrows, can be up to 2,000 feet long and more than six feet high. Surprisingly, until a Brazilian geologist spotted anything while travelling along the highway, little was known about the existence of these caves.

Professor Heinrich Frank of the University of Rio Grande do Sul noticed something while passing a building site in the early 2000s. The site's excavators had uncovered an odd hole, and Frank couldn't help but wonder where it headed. He returned and went into the hole a few weeks later. He crawled down the 15-foot aperture and saw claw marks all over the cave's roof.

Considering his experience, he was aware that no natural occurrence could produce a cave with those features. He also concluded that a gigantic animal must have excavated the paleoburrow, even though he had never heard of one. What exactly is a paleoburrow, then?

The Brazilian tunnels are said to have been made by enormous ground sloths or armadillos, which are defined as shelters dug by a now-extinct prehistoric mammal. After sampling one tunnel, Professor Frank searched for others and was astounded to discover how many were lying in plain sight. He has documented more than 1,500 paleoburrows by searching Google and looking at images people upload. However, researchers are racing against time now that these locations have been identified. The tunnels are vulnerable to being destroyed by the weather or by those who vandalise them once they are in the open.

Frank founded Projeto Paleotocas to document as many of these tunnels as possible and educate people about the need for their preservation. There is a significant chance that these locations will be lost as more construction is done, whether it be for highways or residential complexes. Even though there are still many unanswered questions about them, like as how old they are and what kind of animal dug them up, it is part of what makes the field so fascinating.

This is crucial since it allows you to recreate a prehistoric animal's habitat. No area of palaeontology has this kind of research. The dinosaurs are yours. Their bones are in your possession. However, you are unaware of their residence. Not us. "We locate their residence," Frank remarked. "In this field, our group is at the forefront. We also hope that others will collaborate with us.
