12-YEAR-OLD ENVIRONMENTALIST PLANTS FAR OVER 100 000 TREES FOR REFORESTATION EFFORTS IN INDIA

What is the minimum age required to make a significant positive impact on the world? For over half of her life, a youngster who some refer to as the "Indian Greta Thunberg" has provided an answer to that query. Prasiddhi Singh, who is twelve years old, has already planted more than 150,000 trees throughout India, and he has no intention of stopping there. Singh is regarded as the youngest environmental leader in India. She started pursuing her love of the environment by growing "fruit woods" in the hopes that they would one day be able to offer protection from future storms after being directly impacted by a cyclone when she was only 7 years old. In addition to producing trees, this concept has given many people in India and elsewhere hope.

“Fruit forests” are Singh’s environmental speciality, and they follow a relatively simple but ingenious business model. By planting a variety of trees that yield fruit, these forests create biodiverse landscapes. These landscapes, in turn, are viable not just for reforestation but also to provide protection and relief for food-insecure populations. The concept has become popular around the country, and Singh has drawn in numerous volunteers to help plant her fruit forests. A majority of them hail from Tamil Nadu, Singh’s home state.

With the assistance of volunteers, Singh planted more than ten fruit forests by the time she was eight years old, as she told the Times of India. At this age, she also got the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraska, India's highest civilian award for children, in 2021 for her reforestation efforts.

Singh is currently 12 years old, and her experiences and achievements have expanded with her. She has started the difficult work of repairing lakes and mangroves across India, planted countless fruit forests, and given speeches at TEDx events and UN Climate Change summits, among other gatherings. Singh most recently received the June 2025 Young Planet Leader award. He also established the Prasiddhi Forest Foundation.
Established in 2018, the Prasiddhi Forest Foundation uses workshops, events, and classes to educate and motivate people to reforest and save the environment. The foundation's main focus is a "3G Network," a smart pun on a technology phrase that emphasises "growing" your own food, "generating" your own oxygen, and "gifting" these endeavours to the community.

Prasiddhi Singh's incredible journey is only getting started and demonstrates that being older does not stop one from making a difference. Even the youngest people may inspire the globe and sow the seeds for a more sustainable and encouraging future by being passionate, purposeful, and persistent.
