ASTRONAUT REVEALS THE MOMENT HE REALIZED WE WERE LIVING A LIE
This amazing insight from a former astronaut explains why he believes that everyone on Earth is living a complete lie. Ronald Garan, a former NASA cadet, had a "lightbulb" moment after being able to observe our world without interruption.
The 63-year-old travelled more than 71 million miles in 2,842 orbits of the Earth during his career, spending a total of 178 days in space. This also includes four spacewalks totalling 27 hours and 3 minutes of EVA (doing things outside the spacecraft).
He made his first flight to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2008, and he returned for a five-month stay in 2011.Naturally, Ronald experienced the 'overview effect'—the 'unexpected and overwhelming emotion' astronauts experience when they gaze down at Earth from space—multiple times.
Ronald stated in a 2022 interview with Big Think: "I saw dancing curtains of auroras that seemed so close that we could reach out and touch them when I looked out the window of the International Space Station. I also saw paparazzi-like flashes of lightning storms."
"And I saw the unbelievable thinness of our planet's atmosphere."
In that moment he was suddenly 'hit with the sobering realisation that that paper-thin layer keeps every living thing on our planet alive'.
