LUXURY WATCH BRAND RELEASES NEW SPARKLY DESIGNS INSPIRED BY CAVIAR
The jeweller who created the Five Time Zone watch, which is worn by Pharrell, Naomi Campbell, and Jay-Z, has unveiled a new line of high-end timepieces. The Caviar Tourbillon watch, which was inspired by a just-opened caviar tin, is completely encrusted in priceless gems—424, specifically.
"The Jeweller," Jacob Arabo is largely responsible for introducing luxury timepieces to rap music. He started his company, Jacob & Co. in 1986 and has collaborated with some of the biggest artists in hip-hop. By combining conventional watchmaking methods with avant-garde and bold aesthetics, Arabo's work frequently aims to defy the intricacies that arise in watch design. Arabo's style is exemplified by the Caviar Tourbillon.
The watch's unique Calibre JCAA43 movement is "controlled by a one-minute flying tourbillon, visible through an aperture on the dial," according to the Jacob & Co. website. 338 white brilliant cut pavé diamonds are set into one side of the self-winding arrangement. The diamonds are always glistening from catching the light because the movement is continuous.
The Caviar Tourbillon is described as "a masterpiece of both high jewellery and great watchmaking" on the Jacob & Co. website, and the watch's fine craftsmanship supports this claim. The Caviar Tourbillon's gemstones are even purposefully shaped. Citing the fact that caviar is packed so densely inside its container that the individual grains compress into rectilinear, rather than spherical, shapes, Arabo drew inspiration directly from caviar tins.
Baguette-shaped gems are put in an invisible setting on the Caviar Tourbillon to symbolise this geometric profusion. Even though the invisible setting is a labour-intensive operation, the baguette gems' extensive coverage of the watch's surface makes it even more difficult.
The Caviar Tourbillon from Jacob & Co. is more than simply a high-end timepiece because of its exquisite design and mechanical prowess. It's a striking piece that supports Arabo's reputation for ingeniously pushing the limits of haute jewellery and horology. The Caviar Tourbillon is a reminder that style and functionality can coexist in amazing ways, much like the Five Time Zone watch that made waves a little more than 20 years ago.
