MEET THE HUMANOID ROBOT THAT CAN NOW TEND TO YOUR HOUSEHOLD CHORES
The speed at which technology is developing these days makes it difficult to keep up. In particular, the robotics sector is advancing rapidly, producing tangible goods that resemble those seen in science fiction films. Norwegian robotics company 1X, well-known for its fully autonomous humanoid robots, is one business spearheading the movement. NEO Gamma, the company's most recent invention, is a companion and personal assistant made to assist with housekeeping.
1X was founded with a mission to create robots that “coexist with humans and elevate humanity.” The business unveiled EVE, a range of industrial robots used in factories all over the world to perform a variety of jobs, in 2022. 1X realized that machine intelligence required a more comprehensive view of the environment after successfully incorporating EVE into work environments. We created NEO, a humanoid robot made to live, learn, and interact with people in natural settings, as a result of that insight.
Before the release of NEO Gamma earlier this year, 1X introduced the NEO beta model in 2024. Wearing a silky, 3D-knit suit, NEO has a cozy, welcoming style that is meant to fit in at home. However, NEO's cozy, clean appearance isn't just about appearances; its knitted nylon layer also reduces operating noise to a level comparable to that of a refrigerator.
The NEO's range of motion is comparable to that of humans. The robot can sit in chairs, squat, pick things up, and walk with a natural arm swing. It can take care of a lot of household chores, like vacuuming, cleaning, laundry, and even brewing you a cup of tea. NEO can have smooth conversations because of its voice assistant and integrated AI system. Additionally, it can listen to and react to its surroundings thanks to the expressive ear rings on either side of its head.
Neo is also always learning; to improve at tasks, it can even watch and imitate human movements. According to 1X CEO Bernt Børnich, "humanoid robots must be developed alongside humans, not in isolation, if they are to truly integrate into everyday life." "The home gives humanoids the variety of data and real-world context they need to develop their intelligence and independence." “It also teaches them the subtleties of human life—how to open the door for the elderly, how to move around pets with caution, or how to adjust to the unpredictable nature of the world around them,” he adds.
To be among the first people to welcome NEO into their homes, 1X is now introducing a private early access program, progressively inviting the public to participate. Every engineering and design choice made for Neo Gamma was made with the sole objective of delivering Neo to customers' homes as soon as possible, according to Børnich. "We're close."
