ARTIST YAYOI KUSAMA LAUNCHES FIRST TRAVELING EXHIBITION THROUGH EUROPE
Yayoi Kusama, a well-known artist, has formally started a European touring exhibition. The first stop is Riehen, Switzerland, a city with strong ties to contemporary art, where Fondation Beyeler is the first Swiss museum to hold a retrospective exhibition of Kusama's groundbreaking work.
With pieces from eight different nations, the self-titled Kusama retrospective is a tribute to the artist's international, cross-generational reach. The exhibit, which was created through close collaboration between the museum, the artist, and her studio, will include more than 300 pieces of art, ranging from her first drawings to daring new explorations. In addition to new pieces created especially for this retrospective, 130 pieces have never been seen in Europe.
The museum states that "Kusama has constantly evaded categorisation through more than 70 years of creation." She is one of the most versatile and significant artists of our day because of the wide range of media in which she works, including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance, collage, fashion, literature, and film. The show presents a dynamic image of an artist who continues to transform our perception of art and experience while highlighting significant eras of radical creation.
