LIFE SAVING VIDEO ON HOW TO IDENTIFY THE SIGNS OF A STROKE
Stroke is the fifth most common cause of death and a major contributor to serious disability in the US, according to the FDA. Understanding the early symptoms can therefore save a life. However, what symptoms indicate a stroke? A clear and educational video that shows the symptoms in realistic detail was made by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
The family is shown getting ready for dinner in the opening scene of the video, which is seen from the mother's point of view. The daughter says, "Dad, a side of your face is drooping—mom?" as they are idly chatting. The father tries slurring his response, saying, "It's probably nothing." The mother then motions for him to raise his hands in the air, but when he doesn't, she tells the girl to call 911 and report that her father appears to be having a stroke.
The family appears distressed as the paramedics arrive and the father is taken away. To convey to viewers that it's reasonable to be upset as the episode plays out, the video authentically captures the feelings experienced during such an episode. The family at the hospital is then shown in the story. The husband is lying on a bed in a robe when the doctors inform them that the man should recover fully because of their prompt action.
Next, the video presents the FAST acronym, which stands for "Face—Is it drooping? Are both of your arms up? Is speech jumbled or slurred? It's time to dial 911 immediately. Although some people may find the video difficult to watch, it has received praise for accurately capturing the symptoms.
