MAN WHO BOUGHT $500 STORAGE UNIT FINDS OVER 7 MILLION IN CASH HIDDEN IN THE UNIT

A man who paid $500 for a storage unit ended up with far more than he had anticipated. The majority of people who buy storage units don't always find anything noteworthy inside, but occasionally they do. For instance, when Colorado resident Rick Ratzlaff purchased a unit in 2017 and found police evidence connected to a cold case, he received far more than he had anticipated. The contents of the documents were subsequently discovered to pertain to the 2006 shooting death of teenage girl Candace Hiltz. Although Candace's case is still unresolved, the police officer who left the evidence in the unit was later charged. On the other hand, this man made a far more fortunate discovery when he discovered a safe inside a $480 unit. Because he sold the lot to the man in question, Dan Dotson gained some notoriety among Storage Wars viewers. Dotson claims that most found safes in apartments are empty, but this man struck it lucky to find an incredible $7.5 million in cash inside his.

According to Dotson, a woman approached him and informed him that her husband had purchased a unit from him that included a safe with contents they were unsure of. The woman claimed that after hiring professionals to pry open the safe, they eventually succeeded in doing so and found that the cash had been inside. Dotson went on, "They then received an odd phone call from a lawyer for the people who had lost the merchandise and the money inside the apartment."

The initial offer made to the couple who discovered the money was $600,000 on the condition that the remaining amount be given back to the rightful owners. In the end, they increased the offer by double, making the $498 unit buyers $1.2 million richer. "The question is would you give it back, or would you keep it and would you run for the hills, or would you look over your shoulder," Dotson said, reflecting on the experience in a video. How would you respond? Either way you look at it, getting $1.2 million for a storage unit you paid nearly $500 for is a pretty good day's work.
