MARTYN, FORMER AUSTRALIAN BATTER AWAKES FROM COMA CAUSED BY MENINGITIS
After being placed in an induced coma last month to combat a severe case of meningitis with a 50% chance of survival, former Australian batter Damien Martyn is back on his feet.
The 54-year-old, who has been known for his exceptional timing and fluid stroke play throughout his 14-year international career, claimed on Saturday that his doctors were shocked by how fast he smacked the fatal ailment out of the park. "My life was robbed from me on December 27, 2025, when meningitis took over my brain. I had no idea that I would be put into a paralysed coma for eight days to combat this terrible illness. And I did! That is, fight," Martyn wrote on Facebook.
"Eight days after being told I had a 50/50 chance of living, I emerged from the induced coma unable to move or speak. Nevertheless, four days later, I walked, spoke, and demonstrated to the physicians why I should be allowed to leave the hospital so that I could begin my recuperation, leaving them in shock.
