SKYDIVER SURPRISES HIS PARENTS WITH A VIDEO CALL MID SKY DIVING SESSION
When something significant occurs, it's not unusual for people to call their parents. For instance, after winning the Nobel Prize for his contributions to the development of a COVID-19 vaccine, Drew Weissman contacted his parents. Where you're calling from, such as when Roger called his parents while he was jumping out of an aeroplane, could make the call unusual.
The incident happened during a challenge that was part of a 2015 campaign by the hostel booking website Hostelworld. According to a video about the event, "We went to Bounce Hostel in Sydney to seek out travellers with an adventurous streak." The six participants are informed by the host, travel blogger Mike Graziano, that they will be skydiving later that day, but with one catch: they must use their phones to Skype with their parents during the experience.
Originating from Ireland, Roger discovered this opportunity while travelling the world. "As everyone knows, calling your parents while on the road is common, usually from the comfort of a café or hostel. However, why not tell them about your travel experiences directly?" writes Hostelworld. Roger acted in precisely this manner. His parents, Pat and Mary, received an unexpected call from their son just after his plane began its ascent.
Roger's parents reacted in the most wholesome way, while other parents watched their kids skydive. They screamed with excitement when they saw their son jump off the plane, even though they weren't sure what he was up to at first. His father exclaims, "I thought he was in a bus!" before his mother pulls out her iPad to capture the moment on camera. "And we believed you were missing us!" The father adds cheekily, "I would not have thought that was f—— possible," before continuing.
