THE IDEAL ANSWER FOR BILL GATES TO THE INTERVIEW QUESTION REGARDING YOUR WEAKNESS

Interviews for jobs are inevitable, and they can be quite nerve-racking. There is a lot of pressure on you to make what could be your greatest first impression ever. After that, some bosses will use covert tactics to expose you, so moving forward, be on the lookout for coffee cups and "salt and pepper."

Not to mention that, in certain cases, if you are being interviewed by this CEO, even one incorrect response could result in your immediate rejection.

But don't worry, billionaire Bill Gates has some excellent advice on how to handle some of the most uncomfortable, yet frequently asked, interview questions. Given that the tech tycoon founded Microsoft nearly 50 years ago, it's safe to assume that he knows a thing or two about managing a profitable company. Additionally, he met with NBA player Stephen Curry in 2020 to discuss his ideal responses for a simulated job interview.

Curry had Gates feign an interview for a Microsoft software engineer position, but his advice applies to any sector. He had already talked about answering the dreaded "salary expectations" and the traditional "why should we hire you" questions.

"How do you define your strengths and weaknesses, and how would you incorporate them into a team?" was the question he answered flawlessly this time.

This question's first part is a little redundant because your resume already lists your strengths, and you wouldn't have been invited for an interview if the employer didn't believe you had any. However, people are caught off guard by the deceptive "weakness" aspect.

What did Gates say?

"Well," he says, "I'm not very knowledgeable about marketing. Being a salesperson would not be enjoyable for me. I find it fascinating to work in a position where you design the products and consider what those features should be. I read about the mistakes that have been made and followed the industry's history."  Therefore, product creation and definition are very strong.
"I would enjoy working with a team that is well-versed in marketing, sales, and customers, but I won't bring that to the table," he continues. In this case, Gates is acknowledging a reasonable weakness rather than attempting to make a real strength into a weakness. He emphasizes that he likes making products that people will use, even though he is a programmer and not a salesman.
And this can then support the company's ongoing expansion. Therefore, it is crucial to demonstrate how you address the weakness and how doing so can contribute to the success of the business. The 'weakness' question prompted users on Reddit to share their best responses. One user wrote: "I give a real weakness and then explain how I compensate for it." For instance, I make up for my difficulty assigning work by making clear RASIC charts.
"I have a few depending on the type of job but I always have a follow-up to express how I handle it," emphasized a second person.
