VIDEO: THE COMRADES MARATHON ISN'T FOR EVERYONE...

Since the Comrades kicked off this weekend, we felt that it was our duty to commend all of the athletes who participated. An 89km run is no small feat, no matter how long it took. There is no doubt that finishing the race took hours of pain, training, dedication and willpower. Watching amputee runner, Xolani Luvuno was inspiring knowing that he has overcome his drug addiction, survived cancer AND still completed the entire marathon on crutches. A huge congratulations to Bongumusa Mthembu who won the men’s race in a time of 05:35:14 and Ann Ashworth who was the first lady to cross the line in a time of 6:10:04.

Prior to the ice baths at the end, the wobbly legs and relieved smiles, these athletes struggled too. It just goes to show how hard it really is to train for such a prestigious race while there are people out there who struggle to simply work a treadmill at all. The first tip is to actually get on the treadmill BEFORE you decide to turn up the speed full blast. The second tip is that gym balls DO NOT belong on treadmills... end of story. The last one, if you do happen to fall face first off of the treadmill, for the love of anything sensible, please don't try to get back on while the thing is still moving at the same speed...

We will just leave the Comrades to the professionals and cheer them on from the couch!
