ARTISTS YAYOI KUSAMA REVEALS LARGEST PERMANENT INSTALLATION IN LONDON
Infinite Accumulation, the renowned artist Yayoi Kusama's largest permanent public sculpture, has been unveiled. It was commissioned as part of the Crossrail Art Programme and is situated at London's Liverpool Street Station. Kusama connects mirrored stainless steel spheres with winding lines to form arches that embrace commuters, reaching more than 32 feet high and 39 feet wide.
Her trademark use of polka dots is referenced in these interconnected spheres. In the original model, the artist used wire to intuitively sculpt a line that connects the orbs, echoing the unity and instability of the cosmos. The sphere's mirrored surface alludes to her Infinity Room installations, which use mirrors to transport viewers to an unbounded universe.
In this instance, the sculpture produces a striking architectural shape that reflects the environment and mirrors viewers. It also references Kusama's Accumulations, which began as repetitive paper collages or soft sculptures. Because of this, Infinite Accumulation is a magnificent display of the various facets of her body of work.
