BILLIE EILISH CALLS OUT BILLIONAIRES AS SHE DONATES $11.5 MILLION TO CHARITIES
As a longtime supporter of the people, singer Billie Eilish frequently participates in social and political engagement. She has spoken up about reproductive rights, urged fashion designers to stop using fur, fought body shaming with a powerful video, and increased awareness of climate change. Eilish is a bright young woman who makes the most of her position to advance causes important to her. She spoke directly to some of the wealthiest people on earth at a recent awards event, gently pointing out that they weren't doing enough to help those in need.
Eilish won the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ Magazine's Innovator Awards, held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Mark Zuckerberg and his spouse, Priscilla Chan (who was honoured with the Philanthropy in Science Innovator Award), Hailey Bieber, Karlie Kloss, Spike Lee, George Lucas, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, and Questlove were among the attendees. The 23-year-old singer used the opportunity to voice her concerns to the powerful, celebrity-studded audience.
Eilish said in her acceptance speech. “We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark, and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country/ I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it. Love you all, but there are a few people in here who have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.”
