COUPLE FINDS 66 BOTTLES OF PROHIBITION ERA SMUGGLED WHISKEY TUCKED AWAY INSIDE THEIR HOME
When a couple in New York learned that their house, which was over a century old, was constructed by a known bootlegger, they dismissed the information as local folklore. However, the couple found something during a recent house renovation that suggested the legend might be real. Nick Drummond and Patrick Bakker reported in early October that they discovered over 66 bottles of Prohibition-era whiskey concealed in the flooring and walls of their 1915-built house.
"Bundles of alcohol are stacked high on our walls!" Drummond posted on his Instagram, documenting the surprising discovery in a series of social media photos. "It's unbelievable that the rumours are accurate! In reality, he was a bootlegger!
Before deciding to start significant renovations two months ago, the couple had been residing in the home for just over a year in the little village of Ames, which is roughly three hours from New York City. Designer and historic preservationist Drummond told CNN that a mystery box fell out of the mudroom linked to the house when he was removing outside skirting at the bottom.
"What is that, I wonder? "I'm really perplexed," he said. "I'm searching, and I see glass, paper, and hay all over the place. This whiskey bottle is in another package that I noticed.
