GERMAN TEEN LIVING ON A TRAIN TRAVELS TO A NEW PLACE EVERYDAY IN HIS HOME
Many people have chosen alternate housing options as a result of the escalating expense of rent and apparently never-ending mortgage payments. College students and young adults are particularly fond of van living, and an increasing number of families are residing in RVs and converted school buses. Because cruise ships are less expensive than living at home, some retirees are choosing to spend the majority of the year on them. However, one adolescent in Germany has decided to live on trains full-time to make use of his nation's extensive rail network.
German software developer Lasse Stolley, 17, spends his evenings in sleeping carriages and his mornings eating breakfast in the first-class lounge. He does his laundry at train stations and takes showers in fitness centres and recreational spaces. Stolley can put all of his belongings—three items of clothing, hygiene products, sleeping essentials, and technology—into a single bag at a time when many teenagers are purchasing new clothes and electronics.
Since graduating from high school at the age of sixteen, the adolescent has been living this manner. He claims that it was difficult to persuade his parents at first, but in the end, they accepted him. For the first few months, Stolley struggled to fall asleep, and he had to be careful to prevent his possessions from being stolen at night, so it was challenging to adjust to life on the train. However, he was able to establish a pattern and have a great time after overcoming his early challenges.
