90-YEAR-OLD TRAVELS 10.5 MILES B BIKE DAILY TO VISIT HIS BELOVED WIFE
When it comes to the person you've shared your life with, love has no boundaries. The personification of this concept is 90-year-old Dutchman Peter Burkhardt. He goes 10.5 miles (17 km) every day to visit his 63-year-old wife, who is currently residing in an Apeldoorn hospice. He rides his bike and travels the city alone most of the time, but on days when the weather is particularly bad, he takes a cab or is driven by his kids. When the winds are too strong, it can take a little longer, but it takes him an hour to get there and another hour to bike back home.
Burkhardt wears a blue ski outfit with a body warmer on top and a white cap to keep his head warm throughout the winter. "I enjoy skiing. He told the Dutch publication De Stentor, "I don't mind the cold, and you can wear a rain jacket when it rains." "Therefore, I will always reach my wife." Burkhardt has been commuting to his wife's hospice for the past seven years, so he is familiar with the journey. "I have to accept the current state of affairs. All I want is to spend every day with her. I can't help but miss her. I spent some time doing it by automobile. Even so, I switched it out with the bike.
Burkhardt's license was denied, and he hasn't had a car in a while, even if he wanted to drive. But nothing can stop this senior from falling in love. Even though his life has altered since his wife was placed in a nursing facility, he still enjoys riding his dependable tricycle. "Cycling is still going well, although I walk a lot less now."
