MAN WHO FAKED BEING A LAWYER AND WON 26 CASES GETS ARRESTED

Police claim that a lawyer named Brian Mwenda is a "masquerader," according to BBC News.

The individual was also charged by the authorities with taking attorney Brian Mwenda Ntwiga's true identity. Is anyone experiencing flashbacks to the movie Catch Me If You Can from 2002? A four-part Netflix documentary seems imminent.

The lawyer had handled dozens of cases in front of Magistrates, Court of Appeal judges, and High Court judges, according to the Nigerian Tribune. Following many public complaints, the man was taken into custody by the Nairobi Branch of the Law Society of Kenya's Rapid Action Team, according to NDTV.

The Law Society of Kenya posted on X, "The Branch wishes to alert all members of the society and of the public that BRIAN MWENDA NJAGI is not an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or a member of the Branch, according to the Society's records."

According to the outlet, authorities are detaining him while they conduct additional research. The Ghana Web claims that the man went to the Law Society of Kenya portal, found the man's account with a name that matched his, and altered the information.

After uploading his photo, he claimed to have legal training. The individual was able to pose as a legitimate lawyer last week after an emergency meeting started looking into how Mwenda gained access to the account.

According to the publication, the actual Brian Mwenda Ntwiga got in touch with the Secretariat after discovering that he was unable to access the system and that some of his personal information had been changed.

The Law Society of Kenya said in a statement that "Brian Mwenda Ntwiga was admitted to the Bar on the 5th Day of August 2022, and his correct email address was collected and an account was made for him in the Advocates site."

"We contacted Advocate Brian Mwenda Ntwiga, who verified that he had not sought for a practising certificate since his admission because he was employed at the Attorney General's Office and did not need one."

According to reports, he has also made a statement in a social media video. The man stated, "I want to express my appreciation to everyone who is praying for me and supporting me. I will be able to resolve this misunderstanding in due time.

"I will also be able to present the real background and prove my innocence."
