A FAMILY CONSTRUCTS THEIR OWN LEVEES AROUND THEIR HOME TO SAVE IT FROM FLOODING
A major flood in Tennessee triggered by heavy rainfall required forced evacuations and rescues for more than 100 stranded individuals. However, the situation differed for one family in the state's western region. They constructed an amazing levee system around their home, protecting Tucker, Justin Humphrey, and their mother, Amy, from the worst.
Randy Moore's aerial footage shows the villages of Ridgely and Bogota, except the Humphrey residence, totally flooded by rising floodwaters. The property was protected by the levees, which were constructed by the family and were up to nine feet high in some places. The Washington Post quotes Tucker Humphrey, 32, as saying, "Just usual things around here." “Doing what we have to do to save the house.”
Per their late father's beliefs, the brothers have been developing their levee system for years. Tucker remarked, "He'd like to see that," about the attention their construction has received. "As children, he would have known we were paying attention." As the surrounding water levels increased and boats rescued stranded residents from their flooded houses, the brothers persisted in fortifying their wall. "We own the equipment," Humphrey continued. "We're really lucky."
Since a picture of the Humphreys' home, taken by Burton S. Staggs, went viral, members of the community have been applauding their neighbours. Megan Greene writes, "This is one of my best childhood [friends'] homes." "Since Sunday, Tucker and his brother Justin have been working nonstop to prevent water from leaking over that levee!" "Amy's kid,s Tucker and Justin have been working nonstop to keep their mamma's house from having water in it," says Cynthia Cherry, a neighbour. precious family.
Chaunce Fountain, another individual who knows the family and the neighbourhood, remarks, "The Humphreys are a tremendous part of this community, which has some amazing people." I'm happy that their property was spared and that their levee held up. It serves as a fantastic reminder that we can conquer even the most difficult obstacles if we are determined and diligent! It also demonstrates how crucial it is to be organised and take preventative measures to save our communities and ourselves.
