JOHNNY DEPP RETURNS TO HOLLYWOOD LOOKING UNRECOGNIZABLE SINCE TRIAL WITH EX WIFE
Johnny Depp is starring in his first Hollywood studio film since being asked to leave Fantastic Beasts 3. After his court battle with fellow actress and ex-partner Amber Heard, Depp starred in Jeanne du Barry, although it wasn't a Hollywood production. The film, which was directed by French filmmaker Maïwenn and filmed in Versailles with a mostly French cast and crew, was his first production following the Depp v. Heard trial.
Following his dismissal from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2020, Depp's first studio film is Day Drinker. Warner Bros. at the time asked the actor to step down after he lost his libel action against several British newspapers, one of which called him a "wife beater."The film tells the story of a bartender who works aboard a private yacht, bumping into a mystery onboard guest alongside a criminal figure. The first pictures of the 61-year-old in his role have since been shared.
The first picture of Depp in the role of the enigmatic onboard visitor in the movie shows the actor dressed in a light blue shirt and navy suit. Depp's long, greying hair, pulled back from his face, together with his sparkling blue eyes and grey beard, are the image's most striking features. Surprisingly, considering the title of the movie, he is holding a drink in his hand. He also has a gold ring on his right pinky finger.
People have already begun to comment on his drastically altered appearance. An Instagram user wrote: "Did not realise that was Johnny Depp till I saw the caption!"
"SILVER FOX status ACTIVATED!!!!" Another added.
A third commented: "Welcome again!!!"
And a fourth stated: "Based on what I heard about the script and everything, this is gonna be even more HUGE than it seems, such an awesome comeback, can't wait."
Depp co-stars with Madelyn Cline from Outer Banks and Penélope Cruz from Ferrari. Variety also reports that the cast includes Manu Ríos (Elite), Arón Piper (Elite), Juan Diego Botto (Good Behaviour), and Anika Boyle (Made in Caravan). The original screenplay was written by Zach Dean, and Snow White's Marc Webb is directing.
Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee of Thunder Road are producers of Day Drinker, which is reportedly starting production in Spain. It is currently projected that the movie will be released in 2026.
