BRITISH TEEN FACING 20 YEARS PRISON TIME IN DUBAI AFTER INTIMACY WITH YOUNG GIRL WHILE ON HOLIDAY
Dubai has a lot of rules that visitors must abide by, even though it may seem like the most opulent, ideal vacation spot for many. After having sex with a girl while on a family vacation in Dubai, a British teenager faces up to 20 years in prison. According to UAE Civil & Criminal Justice Specialists Arrested in Dubai, Marcus Fakana, 18, had come to the city on August 26th for a vacation with his parents.
According to Marcus, they "had a wonderful time together" and had hoped to keep dating in the UK. But they had to keep her family in the dark about it.
What led to Marcus' arrest?
“We really liked each other, but she was secretive with her family because they were strict,” he said.
She was unable to disclose her relationship to her parents, but they were aware of ours. Without letting them know it was to see a boy, she had to meet me. When he got home, he was eager to see her again, but police unexpectedly arrived at his hotel and took him into custody without giving a reason. During his three days in custody, Marcus was unable to get in touch with his parents.
It is believed that after the couple returned to the UK, the girl's mother discovered their conversations and pictures and called the Dubai police. She is now eighteen and was a few months younger than Marcus at the time.
What are the rules in Dubai?
Radha Stirling, the CEO of Detained in Dubai, clarified that new regulations in Dubai allow tourists to have extramarital sex as long as both partners are at least eighteen years old. "Dubai still has a strict Islamic legal system, even though it has only recently legalized unwed sex for tourists," the campaigner clarified. At the time, Marcus was unaware that the girl was only a few months younger than him," Stirling said. She turned eighteen since his arrest.
The prosecution of this is not appropriate for Dubai. Marcus and the girl's relationship would not be against the law, in contrast to Dubai's more stringent regulations. "Clearly a very strict mother to involve the police in a private matter that is completely legal in the country where she lives and where the children have grown up," Stirling continued. However, she may not have realised that she was potentially causing Marcus to face up to 20 years in prison.
What is Marcus' situation now?
"My family and I pay £2,000 a month to live in Airbnbs. They needed to return home for work. The 18-year-old stated, "My dad works in a warehouse, and my mother is a cleaner. They make a modest living. They have now spent all of the money they had saved for this special occasion. I've been informed that the police's demand of 10,000 AED for bail is unusual, and the expenses are getting out of control.
"I'm by myself here. I hope this nightmare ends so I can spend Christmas at home."
