CANDY CANE | HOW IT'S MADE
So, what is the origin of striped red and white cellophaned Candy Cane that we predominately buy around Christmas? Well, let's find out...
Bobs Candies, an Albany company founded by Bob McCormack in 1919, is the largest manufacturer of striped candy in the world. McCormack was the first manufacturer to wrap his candy in cellophane. In the 1950s, Gregory McCormack invented the machine to twist the candy and bend it into a cane. The Keller machine revolutionised the business and created a new industry – the commercial manufacture of candy canes.
Today, the Famous candy company, which was bought over by Farley & Sathers who then merged with Ferrara Pan in 2012 to become known as Ferrara Candy Company, now package their delicious candy canes under the name of 'Bobs'.
