HALLOWEEN DIY DECORATION IDEAS

Halloween is on our doorstep again and we are all about going all out! Check out some of our favourite DIY decor ideas for your Halloween dinner party.

Floating Which Hat Luminaries

What you'll need:

  • Inexpensive witch hats – You can probably find this at your local party shop.
  • Fishing line
  • Long needle
  • LED light sticks/battery powered tea lights – Must be battery powered and lightweight
  • Safety pins
  • Outdoor command hooks for lights

What to do:

  1. After you’ve figured out where you’d like the witches hats to hang, attach one command hook to the ceiling in each spot. Let the hook's glue set for about 10-15 minutes.

  2. String about 2-3 feet of fishing line onto the needle. Feed the needle through the point of the witch hat on the outside of the hat. Bring the fishing line through to the interior of the hat. DO NOT pull all the fishing line through the hat, leave it on the outside of the hat.

  3. Remove the needle and tie the fishing line around a safety pin.

  4. Use the safety pin to attach a light stick, it can be LED or the temporary kind you can find at Halloween in stores. Just make sure it’s lightweight. I’ve had readers tell me that they used glow sticks or tea lights. The quality and brightness of LED lights have improved greatly recently so you should be able to find a lightweight LED light easily.

  5. Now just tie a loop at the end of the fishing line on top of the hat and hang it on the command hook.

Mummy Mason Jar Luminaries

What you'll need:

  • Mason jars
  • Mod podge (this is a decoupage medium, incase you didn't know. It's a glue, sealer, and finish designed for craft and art projects.)
  • LED/tea lights
  • Cheesecloth / bandage
  • Black paper
  • Foam brush

What to do:

  1. Wrap the cheesecloth around a jar and mod podge.

  2. Cut some eyes out of your black cardboard, punch holes in the paper for the iris and stick them on with mod podge. If you don't have black cardboard just stick on some googly eyes.

  3. Add your lights into the jars

Bat and Spider Invasion

For the bats, all you need to do is get a bat template off the internet and black cardboard. Cut out some bat shapes and stick them where you please.

The spiders are a little more complicated than that.

You will need:

  • Styrofoam balls
  • Black pipe cleaner
  • Black spray paint

What to do:

  1. Spray styrofoam balls with black paint, this may take a few coats.

  2. Then, all you do is push the ends of the pipe cleaners into the styrofoam… four on each side obviously… and bend them to look like legs. That’s it!
