INSANELY CARVED & MECHANICALLY-ACTIVATED COINS
The Russian artist, Roman Booteen, has been turning heads lately with his incredible skills at hand-engraving coins, however, it is way beyond just a detailed hand-carved coin – Roman's masterpieces also feature jaw-dropping mechanical surprises.
One of Romans' latest creations is a silver dollar featuring the detailed carving of a knight and woman looking at an indentation on a wall and it's easy to see why people are so blown away by his creations. With this coin, the knight's sword can be removed and placed in a secret compartment to reveal a golden chalice.
Thankfully, it doesn't end there. Over the years, Boteen has produced another impressive artwork called the Gold Bug, a special piece inspired by Edgar Alan Poe’s The Gold Bug. It's carved from two Morgan dollar coins from 1921 and a five dollar gold coin from 2015. In Booteen's coin, there is a mechanism on the edge which allows the bugs wings to open when pressed, revealing a concealed 22 karat gold body of the finely carved scarab.
Booteen has carved over 50 custom coins but also specialises in cigarette lighter carvings, some of which are simply breathtaking. You can check out his most impressive creations below.
