PAKISTAN OFFICIALS MEETS WITH ICC AFTER BOYCOTT
The Pakistan Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council will meet in Lahore on Sunday to discuss Pakistan's intention to boycott their T20 World Cup match against India the following week.
PCB head Mohsin Naqvi will meet with Imran Khawaja, the deputy chair of the ICC, and executive committee member Mubashar Usmani. Ameenul Islam, the head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, will also be in attendance. After their plea to shift their matches from India due to escalating political tensions was denied by the ICC, Bangladesh withdrew from the T20 World Cup, which got underway on Saturday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif then announced that Pakistan's government had decided to "support" Bangladesh by having its team boycott the match against India on February 15.
Pakistan would lose the points if they boycotted the game, and as the match is the most lucrative in the sport, the game may suffer greatly if it were played. With the present TV deals set to expire after the 2027 World Cup, it could result in disagreements over the ICC's current rights agreements and have an effect on future negotiations.
