TENNESSEE ANNOUNCED AS WORLD CUP BASE BY SPAIN
During the World Cup, Spain will play two of its three group stage games in Chattanooga, which is about two hours from Atlanta, according to the nation's football federation. The town, which has about 190,000 residents, is located on the Tennessee River in the same-named southern US state. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Luis de la Fuente's team will use the facilities at Baylor School as a training facility while lodging at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Chattanooga Downtown.
European champions Spain, the 2010 World Cup victors, will play Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia on June 15 and 21, respectively, in Atlanta.
Their final Group H match will be against two-time winners Uruguay in the Mexican city of Guadalajara.
One of the main favourites for the World Cup, which will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19, is Spain, the top-ranked team by the world regulatory body FIFA.
Furthermore, according to Rafael Louzan, president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Spain will host the 2030 World Cup final, which will be co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.
Morocco intends to hold the match in Casablanca at the Grand Stade Hassan II, a massive stadium that is presently being built north of the city.
"Spain has shown its organisational capacity over many years. At an event hosted by the Madrid Sports Press Association late on Monday, Louzan declared, "It will be the leader of the 2030 World Cup and the final of that World Cup will be held here."
Louzan did not indicate whether the match would be staged at Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu or Barcelona's Camp Nou, the two favourite candidates.
The new stadium in Morocco is anticipated to accommodate 115,000 spectators when it is finished in late 2028. Morocco's Royal Football Federation (FRMF) President Faouzi Lekjaa last year declared his intention to see a final against Spain in Casablanca.
