PURE JOY CAPTURED IN PHOTOS OF A BABY RESCUED ELEPHANT HAVING HIS FIRST BATH
Between 20,000 and 40,000 Asian elephants are thought to remain in the wild, while about 3,800 are kept in captivity in Thailand. Unfortunately, a large number of these elephants are born into the tourism sector and have never known freedom. One of these poor elephants was baby Chaba, born on May 17, 2021, at an elephant performance and riding camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand. That is, until she was saved and given a better life by the Save Elephant Foundation (SEF).
The four-month-old Chaba was born in a camp in Thailand and kept alone, while her mother, BunMa, was compelled to amuse tourists every day by performing circus acts. The Save Elephant Foundation crew from Thailand visited the camp to rescue the elephants after learning of their terrible circumstances. Ry from SEF told My Modern Met, "We discovered the mother and infant in a tiny concrete cage, devoid of any kind of enrichment, and the mother on a short chain." "It was evident right away that they both needed immediate medical attention because they were in poor health."
On Wednesday, August 11, 2021, the team proceeded to rescue the mother and baby after the founder of SEF successfully negotiated the animals' release to Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand. Both elephants were naturally terrified and refused to board the truck that the rescuers had initially intended to use to take them to the nature park. Ry says, "We thought that walking to our sanctuary was safer for them." "They arrived at ENP after two hours of walking, and they were greeted with an elephant cake."
