While 2020 might not have given us all the feels and good times we were expecting, or at least hoping for, it did give us one of the best award speeches ever made.
Without realising it, Rebel Wilson stole the show at the 2020 British Academy Film and Television Awards or, as it’s known, the BAFTAs. It’s probably the most formal award show there is, thanks to the Brits and their stiff upper lips.
OK, granted, it was one of the last live award shows that didn’t happen virtually, with stars accepting awards in their loungewear, but we think it would have won best speech anyway.
The Australian actress was only meant to present the award for Best Director but added hilarious jokes and poked fun at everything and anything, including herself.
The actress stayed true to her name – from using the actual award as a face mask to avoid getting the Coronavirus, to poking fun at those who do not identify with a certain gender or race.
Not to mention making jokes about her vagina in front of the future king and queen of England…
In a year that will surely be remembered for negative things like the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown and economies all over the world struggling, at least we’ll always have this gem of a speech to hold on to and remember what humour was like pre-COVID.
Rebel has been in the news recently after it was clear she made the most of her time staying at home during lockdown. After declaring 2020 her “year of health” she went on to lose a serious amount of weight and bag a hot, young boyfriend as well.
2020 was definitely the year of Rebel Wilson. Cheers mate!
