VIDEO: GUY HAS A SEIZURE WHILE SKYDIVING AND ALMOST PLUMMETS TO HIS DEATH
What could be scarier than jumping out of a moving plane? What about losing consciousness and not being able to pull your parachute?
The people who jump out of a plane for sport are crazy enough as it is (falling to your death seems like a bit of an extreme way to get the blood pumping) but as long as you tug that parachute chord in time, you're good to go. But Christopher Jones experienced the most terrifying moment of his life when he was unable to pull his parachute chord while he was having a seizure mid-fall. Luckily, his life was saved because his teacher, Sheldon McFarlane, was able to open his parachute as they hurtled towards the ground. The instructor knew Jones had epilepsy but he hadn't had a seizure in four years and the doctor had given him the all-clear.
Jones explained the terrifying moment saying: "He [McFarlane] initially thought that I didn't know what was happening," he told NBC. "He thought I freaked out because I was a student and didn't know how to get back onto my front. So he swoops over me the first time to roll me back onto my front but that didn't work. Then he goes across and grabs my parachute and he didn't realise until we reviewed the footage that I blacked out."
When Jones regained consciousness, still plummeting to the floor, he remembered the steps he needed to go through to regain control. Luckily his instructor was well-trained and had more than 20 years' experience as a skydiving instructor.
Wow, and we thought having a falling dream was bad!
