VIDEO: LORDE SLATED OVER INSENSITIVE WHITNEY HOUSTON REFERENCE
We often post things on social media mindlessly, giving little thought to the implications of what we post. Lorde was in the firing line this week for doing just that, making an insensitive reference to the late Whitney Houston. She posted a photo on Instagram of her over-sized bathtub with the quote underneath it that said: "And iiii will always love you," a line from the famous song released in 1993.
Houston was found dead in her apartment after having accidentally drowned in her bathtub as a result of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use that contributed to her tragic passing. Her daughter, Bobby Kristina Brown, passed away in similar circumstances.
After being called out for the insensitive reference, Lorde deleted the post and issued a statement saying: "Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote, I'm so sorry for offending anyone—I hadn't even put this together I was just excited to take a bath." Lorde added, "I'm an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again."
"IT IS NOT MY FKN DAY TODAY," the New Zealand-born performer added in a second post. A lot of fans rushed to her defence but only time will tell if the public has let her off the hook for this slip-up.
