VIDEO: ROSANNE SACKED AFTER RACIST TWEET SHOCKED ABC

The recent revival of the 1988 sitcom, Rosanne, was abruptly brought to a halt after Rosanne Barr slipped up on Twitter, posting a racist comment saying that Valerie Jarrett was the child of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes film. Barr wrote, "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj" in replying to a tweet claiming Jarrett helped with cover-ups during the Obama administration. The comment didn't go down so well with ABC or the general public so Barr deleted Monday night's post and said she was leaving Twitter, but later posted a flurry of tweets including one that said she made the comment after taking a sedative.

Despite her reputation of being a controversial figure, ABC felt that she crossed the line saying: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values and we have decided to cancel her show."

Following the announcement of the cancellation, Barr took to Twitter saying: "I apologise to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans," defending her remarks as a "joke". "I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me – my joke was in bad taste."

She also addressed the cancellation of her sitcom. "I will handle my sadness the way I want to," she said. "I'm tired of being attacked and belittled more than other comedians who have said worse."

But, in another, she said what she did was "unforgivable" and asked fans not to defend her actions. She also claimed to have written the offensive tweet while under the effects of a sleeping pill. The drug maker, Sanofi, took to social media to say that "while all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication." (ouch). Barr replied in a tweet that she has had strange side effects while taking the drug late at night. "I blame myself, not Ambien," she tweeted.

When Roseanne returned to TV earlier this year, it quickly became the number one TV show, gaining the attention of 18 million viewers in its premiere. The return of Roseanne was a short-lived and the star, Roseanne Barr, is seen as the Donald Trump of sitcom: blunt, provocative and, at times (a lot of times), deeply offensive. For years her social media activity was filled with blasphemy, provocation and unusual conspiracy theories.

Barr's agent also abandoned her and several services cancelled Roseanne reruns. Jarrett claimed she was fine after falling victim to the racist tweet but asked that it be turned into a teaching moment saying: "Tone does start at the top, and we like to look up to our president and feel as though he reflects the values of our country," Jarrett said. "But I also think that every individual citizen has a responsibility too, and it's up to all of us to push back. Our government is only going to be as good as we make it be."

While Barr has not commented further on the issue, she shows no sign of abandoning Twitter (stay tuned for the drama!).
