VIDEO: SIMONE GIERTZ REVEALS THE SECRET TO HER FAME AND SUCCESS
We all love Simone Giertz and her absolutely useless machines. They make us giggle and inspire us to pursue our passions regardless of how bad we may be at them. She may not have made a medical or engineering breakthrough but she has made a name for herself, even making it onto Ted Talks. Not only does she share one of her newest useless machines, she talks about her performance anxiety and how she overcame it to get to where she is now.
We all get a little anxious when we have to lead a meeting or give a presentation but Simone explains exactly how bad it got and how she dealt with it (aside from making a shirt from over 400 googly eyes). She explains how it all started with the toothbrush helmet saying: " It is recommended by zero out of 10 dentists, and it definitely did not revolutionise the world of dentistry, but it did completely change my life."
She claimed that she started making useless robots because she wanted to learn all about hardware without feeling the pressure of failing, building useless robots removed the pressure of expectation of having to succeed because the robots were built to fail. She added: "And as soon as I removed all pressure and expectations from myself, that pressure quickly got replaced by enthusiasm, and it allowed me to just play."
She ended off by saying: "To me, that's the true beauty of making useless things because it's this acknowledgement that you don't always know what the best answer is. And it turns off that voice in your head that tells you that you know exactly how the world works. And maybe a toothbrush helmet isn't the answer, but at least you're asking the question."
Bravo Simone Giertz! We could not have said it better ourselves. It just goes to show that if you are truly enthusiastic about what you do, keep trying and eventually you will find your path to success.
