VIDEO: THE WORLD WATCHES AS ANT MCPARTLIN'S LIFE SLIPS DOWN A DANGEROUS SLOPE
Since the gregarious TV show host, Ant Mcpartlin, has come out publicly with his struggle with his addiction to painkillers and alcohol, supportive messages have been flooding in, sympathising with the star. McPartlin even revealed in interviews that he had been rushed to hospitals at 5 am after a bad pills binge. He has hidden his battle with drugs and depression from viewers, friends and family for two years and said: “I was at the point where anything – prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs – I would take. And take them with alcohol, which is ridiculous. The doctors told me, ‘You could have killed yourself’. ”
He recounted the incident when he was recovering from a knee operation and had binged on tramadol, morphine and alcohol in June last year. “It was five in the morning and I was screaming in pain so I rang Lisa. She was upstairs because I was living in the living room because I couldn’t get around. I said, ‘You’re going to have to call me an ambulance. I’m in a bad way’. I was insane. It sends you crazy. It was to the point of hearing things, seeing things in the garden and still, the pain was getting worse. The ambulance came and took me to Chelsea and Westminster. I was depressed through the whole thing because I was in pain and immobile.”
He checked himself into rehab and hosted I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! two months after he had gotten out. However, he quickly reverted back to his old ways, involving himself in a car accident on the 18th of March due to drinking and driving, injuring a three-year-old child in the other car. While most people have spoken out in defense of Ant, there has been very little recognition of the family involved in the crash, with many expressing sympathy rather than condemning his carelessness and using his depression as a scapegoat. He has decided to step down from his TV hosting gigs and is said to appear in court on the 4th of April.
