On the 25th of May 2020, news headlines synchronised on one viral story of an African-American man who was unnecessarily killed in the custody of American police officers, falling victim to police brutality.
George Floyd was arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States on May the 25th 2020 for apparently buying cigarettes with a counterfeited $20. He lost his job as a bouncer due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The Minneapolis police officers brutally pinned George Floyd down on the street side for eight minutes and forty-six seconds, after which the officers found George Floyd with no more signs of life.
The death of 46-year-old George Floyd sparked fury across the world overnight, and started a six-day uprising in various states around the United States, protesting police brutality on African-American citizens.
The Minneapolis police officer who arrested and killed George Floyd is Derek Chauvin, who now is charged with third-degree murder and will appear in court this week. The other officers on the scene have been fired.
