WHY KYLIE MINOGUE’S GOLD HOT PANTS ARE A PIECE OF POP HISTORY

Kylie Minogue was a massive star in the 1980s. She appeared in the Australian soap Neighbours and then went on to become one of the biggest icons in pop music, with hits like Loco-Motion and her duet with Jason Donovan, Especially For You.

If you’re a millennial reading this, now would be a good time to ask your parents about Kylie…

In the 1990s she reinvented herself and became more fashion conscious, but her music just didn’t appeal to people anymore. Once her heydays were over, she sort of disappeared.

But then the most stylish comeback kid in the world recorded a new album in 2000, got into a tiny pair of gold hot pants, and sat on top of a bar singing her new song Spinning Around.

CNN Lifestyle reports that those gold hot pants only cost 65 cents (American) back then, but is rumoured to be worth $10 million today.

Even a cancer diagnosis that put all her touring plans on halt couldn’t stop her. The hitmaker was scheduled to headline the Glastonbury music festival, but had to cancel. She came back stronger, better and more fashionable than ever before.

In 2019, she finally played Glastonbury and her performance became the most-watched in the festival’s history. She even wore a gold dress as a nod to those tiny gold hot pants that ignited her comeback in 2000.

It’s been 21 years since she first wore the gold hot pants and her career is still going strong. Good on you, Kylie!
