85-YEAR-OLD COMPLETES DEGREE AFTER 50 YEARS OF WAITING
Many of us deceive ourselves into believing that we have lost out on possibilities as we age. In actuality, though, it's never too late to pursue your goals. Roberto Fernandez, who is 85 years old, is a living example of that. Fifty years after he originally left college to concentrate on his family and career, he recently received his degree. He has now at last fulfilled his life's ambition.
Three years after enrolling at Florida International University (FIU) for the first time in 1972, Fernandez decided to abandon his studies in order to concentrate on managing his own accounting business. He felt it was time to prioritise himself after years of working hard and raising kids and grandkids. Fernandez urged his son, who is currently a faculty member at FIU, to see whether he could still earn his degree. They found that he just needed to finish one more course to receive his diploma.
Fernandez said, "It's something I had in my mind all the time," when asked what inspired him to return and complete that final lesson. Every day, I gave it some thought. "I determined to find out if I could do it, I found out that I could, and I did it," he continued. Fernandez finally crossed the graduation stage with his diploma on Tuesday, December 16, to thunderous cheers from both teachers and fellow students. In an interview, he stated, "I've wanted to have this for fifty years." "I was able to at last. I'm really pleased with myself for completing it.
Anyone who might be reluctant to pursue their dreams might find inspiration in Fernandez, and the eighty-year-old offers some excellent guidance. "Don't give up if you truly want it," he advises. “Do it. since you'll feel a lot better. I promise it.
