CAMERON GREEN NOW THE MOST EXPENSIVE OVERSEAS CRICKET PLAYER IN IPL TOURNAMENT HISTORY
After being acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for $2.77 million (£2.09 million) in the auction before the 2026 season, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has become the most costly foreign player in IPL history.
After Indian players Rishabh Pant (£2.54 million) and Shreyas Iyer (£2.51 million) joined the Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings, respectively, before the 2025 season, the 26-year-old, who is now playing for Australia in the Ashes against England, is the third-largest acquisition in the tournament altogether.
After earlier approaches from the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, the Knight Riders defeated the Chennai Super Kings to acquire Green, who surpasses fellow Australian Mitchell Starc as the most expensive international IPL import. Due to the IPL's maximum wage cap on foreign players during mini-auctions, Green will only be able to keep $2.08 million (INR 18 crore) of the fee; the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will utilise the remaining funds for player welfare.
