Cockatiels are not only known for their vibrant colour, but they are also known for their brain and being incredibly smart. These magnificent creatures have great memories and ability to learn adorable tricks. Some of these tricks even include the skill to speak. A cockatiel's vocabulary is generally not as extensive as other parrots, such as African greys and Amazon parrots, but some can be taught to say a few words or phrases, such as “Hello,” “Pretty bird,” “I'm a good bird”. Some even learns phrases of your favourite song.
But that’s not all these feathery creatures learn to do. Some cockatiels even love to play games. One particular bird in Bursa, Turkey, showed off just how smart he is. This little guy managed to find a peculiar way to entertain himself and his sibling baby birds by playing one of the most well known children games, peekaboo! Yes that right, peekaboo.
In an adorable video which was shared by the bird’s owner, known simply as Neşeli Kanatlar (which translates to “Happy Wings” in Turkish), the playful cockatiel is seen voicing the phrase, “peekaboo” and then ducking to hide from the baby birds who are sitting inside a ceramic bowl. And these little babies definitely seemed to be very amused by their big siblings game.
But the cockatiel isn’t only playing the game to entertain them as Kanatlar revealed that the “Brother cockatiel makes his brothers play games so they don’t get scared.” How sweet is that. Not only is he one very clever bird but also super caring.
