BRAZIL AIMING TO BID FOR 2029 CLUB WORLD CUP
Following a meeting between FIFA CEO Gianni Infantino and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazilian Football Confederation head Samir Xaud announced on Monday that the country will submit a proposal for the 2029 Club World Cup. Following a high-level meeting at the Planalto Palace in Brasília, which featured Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti and Sports Minister Andre Fufuca, the news was made. "We think Brazil can host this major event, but many conversations and modifications are needed. But Brazil will file its candidacy for 2029," Xaud said to Agencia Brasil, the nation's official news agency.
FIFA has not yet opened the 2029 tournament bidding. Chelsea won the inaugural enlarged Club World Cup, which took place in the US last year. Morocco, Qatar, and Spain are anticipated to submit competing bids.
The 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Morocco, and Portugal, although the Club World Cup hosts are chosen independently. This is a change from the past, when competitions such as the Confederations Cup frequently functioned as World Cup test events. Events about the 2027 Women's World Cup, which Brazil will host for the first time, took place concurrently with Infantino's visit. 32 teams will compete between June and July, and FIFA introduced the event's official branding on Sunday.
