INCREDIBLY DRIPPY HYPNOTIC ARTWORK COVERS THE ENTIRE GIANT SPHERE IN LAS VEGAS CREATING MESMERISING VIEW
The Sphere in Las Vegas is a breathtaking sight. In a city renowned for its extravagant aesthetics, its constantly shifting Exosphere is a showstopper—not an easy task. As part of the XO/Art exposition, artists started showcasing their work on the 580,000-square-foot display in 2023. Refik Anadol was the first to make use of the large space. With her coverage of Sphere in Cosmic Cascade, Jen Stark has now established herself. Her distinctive drippy layers, which cover the outside in vivid hues, are featured in the animated artwork. It's as captivating as it is vibrant.
“When I first saw Sphere a couple of years ago, I dreamt about having my artwork on it,” Stark tells My Modern Met. “It’s the perfect canvas as the largest LED screen in the world.” In 2024, that dream became a reality when Sphere contacted her and her creative consultant, Joshua Liner, about displaying her work on it.
To bring Cosmic Cascade to life, Stark enlisted the help of her longtime animation partner, David Lewandowski. "We were certain that we wanted to showcase my distinctive psychedelic dripping technique and give it a three-dimensional appearance as it trickles down Sphere's sides," she says. It was one of the most enjoyable and difficult projects I've ever worked on, and seeing it in person in Vegas was an incredible experience. It really was a dream realised!
