MUSICIAN DEMONSTRATES WIDE TONAL RANGE OF GIANT CONTRABASSOON TWICE HIS SIZE
The contrabassoon is one of the biggest instruments created by Joseph Haydn and employed by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Musician David Chatterton of The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment demonstrated the unique and beautiful sound of the contrabassoon. He particularly noted the unique instrument’s huge tonal range in sound.
Despite the mesmerising sound of the giant instrument, the instrument is a bit difficult to play and takes some talent to pull off seeing that the instrument is twice the size of a person.
“What is this big beast of the orchestra, and where did it come from? David Chatterton introduces the contrabassoon as heard in Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Haydn’s Creation.”
