QUINS FACING CRITICAL GAME AGAIN STORMERS IN CHAMPION CUP
Under duress, before Sunday's Investec Champions Cup matchup with the Stormers, Harlequins coach Jason Gilmore has made it apparent that roster reductions are imminent.
Quins are playing for much more than points, while the Stormers come to London riding high after an undefeated season. They have had a terrible season, winning just four of their fifteen games in all categories. Northampton's 66-21 thumping of them last weekend prompted a direct statement from the club calling the recent results "not acceptable."
Gilmore has cautioned players that their fate at the club will depend on how well they perform in the upcoming weeks.
"We do have a lot of players on contract," he stated. "To make sure we're receiving the greatest value for our money, we're examining the amount of money we spend on the team. And the boys know that.
What is the optimal quantity of contracts? What do we really need, and where should we invest our money?
In recent seasons, the Harlequins have lost several elite players, including English mainstays Joe Marler, Danny Care, and Joe Marchant, as well as Springboks Andre Esterhuizen and Wilco Louw.
Gilmore stated that his goal was to revive the Harlequins' signature attacking style while emphasising the importance of physicality in defence. "To what extent are we ready to fight?" he continued. "It's simply about stopping momentum in the game and ensuring that we stay on top, not about being on the back foot."
