RENEGADES VICTORY SECURED BY SUTHERLAND'S SIXES
Melbourne Renegades defeated rivals Melbourne Stars by four wickets due to two sixes from captain Will Sutherland in the last over.
In front of more than 65,000 spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Sutherland started by hitting Marcus Stoinis over the leg side with 13 needed from the final over in pursuit of 174. Three needed from the final two balls, and he hit the Australian all-rounder back over his head to complete victory with a ball to spare.
After opener Josh Brown was bowled for 84 at the beginning of the 14th over, the Renegades faltered from a commanding position of 127-1. Sutherland finished 19 not out from seven balls to give the Renegades their second victory of the season, but they lost 5-34, including Mohammad Rizwan for 41.
With a victory, the Stars would have taken the top spot in the standings, but they were forced to settle for a 173-9 total, with England bowler Tom Curran leading the way with 38. Hilton Cartwright scored 28, and Campbell Kellaway scored 33, but the scoring was restrained by the loss of regular wickets.
