SUSPECT WHO KILLED TWO IDENTIFIED AND MANIFESTO RELEASED
Warning: This article contains a discussion of suicide which some readers may find distressing.
The suspect who shot a teacher and a student at a private Christian school has been identified by police, and her purported "manifesto" has been making the rounds on social media.
On Monday, December 16, 15-year-old Natalie "Samantha" Rupnow allegedly went on a rampage at the K-12 Abundant Life Christian School in Wisconsin, killing two people and injuring six others, some of whom are still in the hospital battling for their lives. The teen allegedly entered a study hall on campus with a handgun and opened fire on students of different grades.
Just before 11 a.m., a second-grade student called 911, according to the police.
When police officers stormed the school a few minutes later, they discovered Rupnow dead and several victims with gunshot wounds. During a press conference on Monday night, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes stated that the suspected shooter, who went by the name "Samantha," had attended the school.
According to Barnes, there is evidence that Rupnow killed himself with a gunshot wound while travelling to the hospital. Since then, a purported document purportedly representing Rupnow's "manifesto" has been making the rounds on social media. 'War Against Humanity' is the title of the six-page, locked document that her online boyfriend is said to have shared. However, according to Barnes, the police have been "unable to verify" the document's authenticity.
"We are aware that it has been posted, and the person who posted it is alleged to have a connection to the victim," he continued. According to the chief, police are still looking into the suspect's motivation, but the FBI has been notified of the information for assistance.
Officers are searching her home and interviewing her parents, who they claim are "cooperating."
They're still trying to learn as much as they can, Barnes explained. Authorities told reporters that a handgun was found at the scene, and investigators think Rupnow used a 9mm handgun.
The identities of the two deceased victims are unknown.
According to Barnes, two of the six injured students are in critical condition at the hospital due to "life-threatening" injuries, while the other four students suffered non-life-threatening injuries, two of which have been discharged in "stable condition." It was a "sad day for our community and for our country," according to Barnes. In addition, President Joe Biden referred to the shooting as "shocking and unconscionable" and urged Congress to take immediate action to stop gun violence.
