THE MEANING BEHIND AVRIL LAVIGNE'S NEW SONG | HEAD ABOVE WATER
The New Song 'Head Above Water' by Avril Lavigne quickly reached No.1 on the iTunes download chart, the YouTube lyric video has been viewed more than 5 million times in the first 5 days of release and her music video has reached 7 million views in the first 4 days after its release. However the song has a very emotional story behind it, Avril, now 33 was forced to pause her music career for more than two years because of Lyme disease.
“One night, I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom laid with me in bed and held me,” Avril said. “I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ In that moment, the song-writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”
The song has been labelled a 'Praise and Worship' genre of music and many have reached out to applaud the artist for setting a good example for others dealing with their own struggles. While many other artists or actors may turn to alcohol and drugs, Avril cried out to God.
