VIDEO: THE SECRETS BEHIND THE MODERN FAMILY CAST
Modern Family is the perfect show to binge watch after a long week at work. There is nothing better than laughing along with Phil's lame antics or Cams ability to dramatise everything. Despite the picture-perfect cast, there are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that aren't such picture-perfect memories. Here are a couple of things you may not know about the cast:
Even though he is the best at acting like a particularly eccentric gay man, Eric Stonestreet, better known as Cam, is straight.
Fizbo the clown was not an invention of the show. Stonestreet began dressing up as Fizbo when he was just nine years old. By the time he was 11, he was performing at kids’ birthday parties. He’s not sure where the name Fizbo came from.
There was a Facebook petition for Mitchell and Cam to kiss. In 2010, the “Let Cam & Mitchell Kiss on Modern Family!” Facebook petition was launched. In September of that year, the characters kissed on camera for the first time in the background of a scene.
Julie Bowen(Claire) was 8½ months pregnant during the pilot episode. When Bowen first read the script, she fell in love with the show. During the episode, Bowen had to hide her pregnancy behind various props including cereal boxes and laundry baskets.
Sofia Vergara may seem like a natural for the role of the trophy wife, but she was nearly a dentist. She was pre-dental in her native country of Colombia but dropped out two semesters before she graduated.
Ed O’Neill, who plays Jay in the series, was briefly part of the American football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was released before playing his first season though – which may have been a blessing in disguise for us viewers as he went on to be the legendary Al Bundy during the late 80s and early 90s in the series called Married... with children.
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons played Lily because the original twins were pulled out of the show by their parents when they got older.
Luke Dunphy is a grade-A dunce, and more often than not ends up the butt of the family’s jokes. But in real life, Nolan Gould, is nowhere near this clueless. Gould is actually a genius. He has an IQ of 150 and graduated high school at 13 years old.
There are a many other secrets, some darker than others, that the stars have in their personal lives that have been revealed in the video below.
