VIDEO: IF UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE TOURS WERE HONEST

Let's get straight to it and admit the sole purpose of a college tour: it's the chance for your parents to convince you that college is right for you by taking you past some buildings that sound impressive but are actually pretty aesthetically displeasing. Are we right?

The reason people go on college or university tours is to check out all their options before the pick which one they go to (if they want to go at all). But the thing is, all these tours are the same. 

They all consist of a tour guide – he smiles too much, he lies a lot, he uses unnecessary smart vocabulary and he's an expert at making things sound way more impressive than they actually are.

They all involve your parents, who all end up doing the same things – subtly slipping in phrases that make you sound gifted, asking too many questions, embarrassing you and constantly adding some "oooh's" and "aaaaahs" so that you are convinced this is the place.

Lastly, they all have one important thing in common – these tours are all about advertising, and all about pretending.
