VIDEO:THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR REMAINED TOP SECRET UNTIL IT WAS LAUNCHED
Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana, Paul Bettany, Pom Klementieff and Tom Holland sat down together to talk about one of the most highly anticipated upcoming films Avengers: Infinity War. If you aren't an avid Marvel fan and haven't been following every move of the new Avengers movie, this interview will have your head in a spin because... what kind of movie doesn't let their actors read the script?
Considered on its own, as a single movie, “Avengers: Infinity War” makes very little sense, apart from the near convergence of its title and its running time. The backdrop of the film is set two years after the Avengers were torn apart during the events of Captain America: Civil War. Thanos arrives on Earth to collect the Infinity Stones for a gauntlet that will allow him to bend reality to his will. The Avengers must join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop him before his onslaught of destruction puts an end to half the universe.
Basically, the producers and directors were the only people who actually read the script in its entirety and the actors were only allowed to read the pages they were involved in. For the actors, it's like having only little snippets of a story but not being able to put it together – which made acting in the scenes more challenging.
Tim Holland was kept on strict lockdown as he was infamously unable to keep from spoiling for Spider-Man: Homecoming. It means that the actors will also be able to see the movie for the first time along with the audience. The actors who were less patient were given fake scripts to read, ensuring the secret was kept well under wraps. When Paul Bethany was asked how dark the film was at an Avengers fan event he said: "I haven't seen it and I haven't read it. None of us have, the only people who can answer that question is Kevin Feige, the Russo Brothers and the editor. Because we all read scripts that had fake endings, fake scenes."
Some scenes were even adjusted and rewritten minutes before filming and, although seemingly haphazard, the audience was satisfied when a short 30-minute piece of footage was released as a "teaser". After being released on the 23rd of April, reviews have been nothing but impressive.
It's pretty funny to look back to when the actors knew nothing about the ending, explaining to Jimmy Kimmel the small pieces that they did know and then finding out about the lies they were told!
