VIDEO: CREED 2 STEPPING INTO THE BOX OFFICE WITH MICHAEL B JORDON
The trailer for the ultimate hardcore sports movie, that combines the Rocky franchise with Michael B Jordon, Creed 2, has been released. Wednesday's release makes it clear that the movie would be packed full of action, building up to the moment that Adonis Creed (Jordan) will fight the son of Ivan Drago, the enemy in Rocky IV. Although the original Creed movie was Jordan's first role in a major flick, it turned out to be a box office success. This time around, Ryan Coogler won't be filling the role of writer-director as he did in the first movie, instead that role will be taken over by Steven Caple Jr., who stepped up to the plate after Stallone originally announced he would direct.
A sequel to the first movie didn't come as a surprise as Stallone had already made public in January 2016 that a sequel would be in the pipeline, it was delayed though due to Coogler's schedule being taken up by "Black Panther", which he also directed.
MGM planned to release Creed 2 back in 2017, meaning that Coogler was no able to direct, saying that the timing of his other projects would get in the way of directing the movie – but he also added: “Creed was about my dad and me, so it’s a movie that I find difficult to watch. It’s difficult for me to even think about it. I’ve got so many emotional ties to it, not to mention you know how much I care about the people involved. These are people that I wanna see do well and win at all costs. There’s timing, and that film, for whatever reason, it had to go when it’s going. I think it’s a blessing that it’s going, man. It’s amazing that they found an incredible filmmaker in Steven Caple Jr., who’s a guy I actually went to film school with, who I have a lot of love and respect for. I can’t wait to see what he does with it.”
The storyline picks up where it left off with Rocky still visiting Adrian’s grave and talking to her. Adonis and Bianca are still going strong as a couple and have seemed to have a new mini addition to the family. In the first movie, Tony “Little Duke” Evers – who is the owner of the Delphi Boxing Academy where Apollo used to train – refused to take on Adonis, due to his painful family history. However, the sequel shows he has changed his mind and is shown in several boxing scenes with Adonis.
Creed 2 will go into more detail on Adonis’s connection to his father, Apollo, and his attempt to make his own name in the industry while following a similar path. In the original Rocky movies, Tony “Duke” Evers trained Apollo for several fights and then trained Rocky in his fight against Ivan Drago. In Creed 2, Evers’s son, Little Duke, trains Apollo’s son, Adonis, to fight Drago’s son.
The movie will be released on the 21st of November 2018.
