WATCH HOW HONEY BEES WHOOP WHEN THEY BUMP INTO EACH OTHER
Honey bees are very talented little creatures. Not only is bees intelligent when it comes to building and protecting their hives, they also dance, produce honey, recognise disease, and let out a polite cry when they meet and bump into each other.
Researcher Martin Bencik and his team from Nottingham Trent University were recording honey bee wing movements when they spotted the surprise call.
Bencik talks more about his discoveries in a 2021 interview. "A vibrational pulse produced by honeybees’ wings, long thought to be a signal to other bees to stop what they are doing, might actually be an expression of surprise."
